Getting into the “making money online” business is fairly straightforward. Even if you have no experience whatsoever, you can still get something going without any real technical skills. Of course, learning skills as you go along is going to increase your options (and cash flow) down the road.

One of the easiest ways to get going is to start a blog. Yes, I know there are already millions out there, but there will be only one like yours. I started out this way two years ago. If I were starting from scratch today, I would still start with blogging.

If you have no experience at all, don’t fret. There is a way to get your blog up and running within minutes. The best part is that it’s totally free and you can be making money in no time. Here’s what to do:

Go to http://www.blogger.com and register your free blog. Everything is very intuitive and doesn’t require any technical skill at all. Make sure you have a subject in mind and that you choose the name of your blog according to that subject. You also want to make sure that you choose a good design (there are several to choose from, and this can be done with the click of a mouse).

Next, you will want to post several blog entries on your chosen subject. Try to post as much as you can for the first week. The reason for this is that the search engines need some content to index. Once that happens, you should start seeing visitors coming to your site.

Once you have some content posted and some steady traffic you will want to start monetizing it and making a few dollars. One of the best ways to do this is to use Adsense (click the advertising programs link under Google’s logo on their main page). Adsense is a pay per click advertising platform owned by Google. Actually, Google also owns Blogger.

In a nutshell, once you have an Adsense account, you will be able to place small advertisements in and around your content. The ads will be targeted towards your content. For example, if your blog is about dogs, the Adsense server will deliver ads for dog training, dog food, dog accessories, and so on.

You get paid whenever someone clicks on these ads. The amount is generally related to the subject matter and how much the advertisers are paying per click.

Read over the Adsense terms and conditions carefully. Next, apply for an Adsense account through your Blogger interface. This is the easiest way to get approved.

After you have your free Blogger blog and Adsense account, the only thing left is to get traffic by posting really great content. The more compelling your content is the more visitors (and clicks) you’re going to get.

You’re not going to make much money in the beginning with the Adsense program. In fact, it might take you four to six months to break $100. However, if you stick with it you’ll eventually start making some great money. The key to everything is traffic.

Traffic is the holy grail of Internet marketing. Once you have traffic, you can do anything.
