Desperate Times – Is Internet Marketing The Answer?
There is no doubt that the last six months have seen drastic changes in the way money is distributed. In fact, the entire worldwide financial system has taken a hit unlike anything we’ve seen in the past 20 years – maybe even since the Great Depression (but that remains to be seen).
Even here in Canada, I’m seeing a lot of belt-tightening and I personally know of several people who have lost their jobs. And that brings me to my next point.
I’ve been approached by two friends who are going through a rough financial patch. They have a vague idea of what I do online to make a few bucks and I get the feeling that they’re expecting me to coach them to do the same. And that got me thinking of how people sometimes don’t make rational decisions in a time of crisis. Not that I mind showing them how to do Internet marketing, I’m just hesitant because they seem desperate.
And that got me thinking about how many people are going to be flocking to “making money online” careers. For me, I don’t make my best decisions when I am desperate. And it almost seems like these desperate people are willing to take their last bit of savings and risk it all on a spin of the wheel in the Internet marketing arena. It’s like betting your life savings in the stock market, or placing your rent money on an inside tip at the horse track. Desperation is never a good catalyst to making good choices.
The other disturbing trend is all these scam artists that popped out of nowhere and are more than willing to sell a newbie a step-by-step blueprint to Internet riches. While there are some excellent programs and courses that will save you months of work, you need to know what is real and what is pie-in-the-sky.
I plan on helping these two individuals out and getting them started in making money online, but I’m certainly going to let them know that it is no get-rich-quick scheme. Hopefully, I’ll also be able to point them in the right direction as far as study material and e-books are concerned.

The thing is that internet marketing must be really hard work, I would think that it takes endless hours to get something up and running. I wonder how many people realise that.
